I'm told that the American flag upside down represents distress and while we face challenging and difficult circumstances, my intention while painting this was not to make a commentary on the times we live in. Like most of my art, there's seldom only one meaning behind any particular piece.

In Cold War, I've attempted to convey the personal struggle and tension of having lived in different cultures for years, returning to one's home culture, and experiencing the gamut of emotions sorting through one's cultural identity. -DUBHGHLAS
